The River Dart

Kayaking and Canoeing on the River Dart

Lowertown Farm is only minutes away from the popular River Dart, making it a perfect base for your kayaking holiday. The River Dart is known as one of the best stretches of white water in the UK making it ideal for experienced paddlers.

There is no longer an access agreement or ticketing service, however paddlers are generally welcome to use the River Dart between 1st of October and 15th of March if the river is high enough not to cause damage. There are various egress points and this can be discussed during your stay. The River Dart is up to grade four so please ensure you are safe and never paddle the river alone.

We will also dry your equipment overnight ensuring it will be dry for the following day’s paddling. As Luke is a keen paddler there are also a number of paddling magazines, maps and guidebooks available to read in our guest sitting room.
There are a range of rivers and grades locally to enjoy on your Kayaking holiday, all within a short drive including the Exe, Lyn, Teign, Taw, Avon, Tamar, Tavy, Plym, Walkham, Barle and Erme.

If you want to update your paddling skills with highly recommended instructors we recommend Fluid Skills, Gene 17 and ABC Coaching.

There are also a number of extremely good paddling shops in Exeter, Plymouth and a small one at the Country Park if you need further equipment during your stay with us.

“Superb, everything we hoped for and more; welcoming, comfy, great breakfast. Thank you so much. Can’t wait to come back” – Group of Kayakers from London

Fishing on the River Dart

The River Dart is only open to fishing at certain times of the year; however there are other places that are good for fishing if it’s out of season.

We recommend speaking to Tom Hill who runs half day (4hrs) and full day (7hrs) courses with all equipment included. All you need to do is pop into the post office and get an Environmental Agency Rod Licence (it’s around £3.50 per day) after booking a lesson with Tom. His number is: 01626 866532 / 07883 086094.

To book please phone 01364 631034 or email lowertownfarm@eplusmail.com
