Questions and Answers
🐴 Retirement Livery – Frequently Asked Questions
How many stables do you have?
We currently have four spacious 12ft x 12ft stables, overlooking one of our six-acre winter turnout fields. This setup allows horses in the stables to see the herd, helping them remain calm and settled. Each stable is well-lit with natural light, fitted with thick rubber matting, and equipped with automatic water drinkers.
What’s included in the retirement livery package?

Note: We do not accept stallions or rigs.
What are the turnout and stabling arrangements?
Can I use my own vet, farrier or therapist?
Yes. We have an excellent local team, including 24-hour vet cover, farriers, physiotherapists, and an equine dentist—all of whom know our yard well and respond quickly.
However, if you prefer to stick with your own practitioners, you are welcome to do so.
Do I need to visit regularly?
No. You are welcome to visit as often as you like. Some owners come every week, while others visit only once or twice a year. Many of our clients live abroad, and we ensure they feel connected with regular updates, phone calls, emails, and photos via Facebook.
If any major issues arise, we may ask for your involvement.
Horses displaying dangerous behaviour may be asked to leave for safety reasons.
What’s required before my horse arrives? To ensure the safety of all horses on the yard, we require:
Can my horse be shod?
We prefer horses to arrive barefoot, and most of our liveries remain barefoot year-round. If your horse requires trimming or specialist care, we’ll work with you to find the best approach.
How do I know my horse will be happy?
Our small, specialist yard ensures horses receive individual attention, personalised care, and a peaceful environment without the hustle of busy yards. Herd groups are carefully matched by personality and temperament, and fields are rich in natural features like shelter, hedgerows, and gently sloping ground for comfort and enrichment.
You’ll receive regular updates, and you’re welcome to check in or visit any time for peace of mind.
Do you offer short-term or trial stays?
Where availability allows, we may offer short-term stays for horses transitioning into retirement or recovering from injury. Please contact us to discuss your horse’s needs and we’ll do our best to accommodate you. A recent clear strangles test will be required.

My lovely boy Taz has been with Hannah since I retired him 3 years ago, he has been so relaxed and every need catered for. His feet are now barefoot and never looked better, when he has needed the vet Hannah has been right on top of it and looked after him. I am happy to say that his mobility is still good, he is eating very well - on loads of grass, and he is settled in his herd. The yard is professional and friendly. Thank you for your excellent service.
