Equine Retirement Livery at Lowertown Farm packages:
The cost of retirement livery is spread throughout the year for all clients. Commonly older horses stiffen up during periods of stabling. This is why we offer 24/7 turnout at our yard – a popular choice for all breeds of horses. Your horse can then choose how active they would like to be in older life, it's especially good for those who suffer from joint stiffness, swellings, respiratory issues and arthritis.
All the horses at Lowertown Farm live out through the summer months and rotate around the full 93 acres here, then during the winter, those who need to be stabled can be. Even those who are stabled during the winter months get on average nine hours of turnout during daylight hours to ease any stiffness.
We maintain a full fieldwork program - correcting the fields after winter, limiting the weeds and ensuring good pasture growth, we also have a full worming program with assistance and advice from the award winning business Westgate Laboratories.
All of our haylage is produced by us on the farm to ensure its quality, made when the weather is just right and fed throughout the winter. We have excellent 24hr cover vets who we highly recommend but if you wish to remain with your own vets then that's great.
There are no restrictions on accessing your horse and we speak to, or email, owners regularly along with Facebook photos and updates. Keeping owners as involved as they would like to be throughout their horses retirement.
We also have cctv cameras if your horse has a particular issue and requires special monitoring. Your horse must be passported, microchipped and have at least public liability insurance, we also ask for a clear strangles test before arrival.

When the time came to retire my horse Faran, I considered all options. I knew that I wanted him to be able to just ‘be a horse’ having spent the last decade at least of his life being a busy riding club all rounder - my once in a lifetime horse. At the time of retirement Faran was 16 years old - so we knew we might have quite a long period of time to consider for him, and I didn’t want to have to move him around - it needed to be a ‘forever home’. We came across Hannah and Luke’s retirement livery service and upon visiting there was nowhere else I could imagine Faran spending his retirement. Nothing was too much trouble for Hannah - all his little quirks and requirements are catered for and the bonus of overnight stabling in the winter so he still has the creature comforts he has always been used to. Faran has now been at Lowertown for just over two years and he is relaxed, comfortable, happy and content - and has a lovely herd of friends. He is cared for superbly and Hannah has really got to know him well - she understands his individual personality and always ensures herd dynamics are reflective of the horses individual characters so that all horses are relaxed. It is such a quiet, remote location and is so peaceful - no coming and going - which was so important to me for keeping Faran as chilled out as possible. I really enjoy visiting whenever I can and rest assured in the knowledge that he is superbly cared for. Very professional and highly recommended. My horse has been with Hannah and Luke for several years now and she looks amazing for 28yrs! She thrives on the calm atmosphere and is the most relaxed and happy I've ever seen her. The farm is incredibly well looked after and the fields perfectly maintained. Hannah goes above and beyond to provide exceptional care and we are so lucky to have our horse here to enjoy her retirement years. xx |
"Hannah gives all the horses kind and attentive care in her peacefully situated yard. Communication and service are thoughtful and professional. Highly recommended" My mare, Puzzle, has been with Hannah and Luke since March this year (2020). I managed to visit her once before lockdown was enforced, but have been delighted to see how happy, healthy and relaxed she looks from the photographs Hannah regularly puts up on Facebook. I know I don't have to worry about Puzzle, as Hannah and Luke obviously look after the horses in their care as if they were their own. I feel very lucky that Lowertown Farm had a vacancy when I needed it. I'm sure, as their reputation grows, it will become harder to find a space there. In November 2019 in needed livery for my home bred, broken and schooled dear mare Solly . I found Lowertown Farm to look after her. I would highly recommend Hannah and Luke as I found Solly was looked after and very happy - she even found herself a boyfriend! |
