Sheltering inside the cattle shed for the farrier today. Very wet outside. ☔ @ Lowertown Farm23/9/2019 We had a fabulous stay at Lowertown Farm Hannah and Luke were excellent hosts nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was delicious, it set us up perfectly for our days riding. Hannah gave us detailed directions and maps to follow which helped immensely when we were finding our way around the moor. I cannot recommend this place enough. We had a lovely time and will definitely be visiting again!! Our new chickens seem to prefer roosting in the trees than in the hen house with the other hens..... Unaware of the fact that the enclosure is fox-proof so they don't have to find a high spot.
Today started with feeding the cows from the tractor and trailer, the grass quality has started to decline (although its still growing well) so we top up their diet with a bit of extra roughage, just enough to keep them content in the field before they come into the shed for winter in November. 😀
Dotty (my favourite cow) normally runs alongside the trailer leaping and bucking in excitement. 😂 ❤️ Interesting letter written to Horse & Hound last year which of course brings out a load of emotions for horsey people.
We decided to specialise in full retirement livery, which of course doesn't suit everyone's circumstances, but should be considered if the horse is happy and healthy. It means that retired horses can enjoy whatever time they have left here, rather than be passed on from home to home, either on loan, or sold on, with their owners still deeply involved in their management and care. Plus so that owners can - if they wish - purchase a younger horse knowing that their older horse's ongoing care is going to be managed with that horse's welfare coming first.....including the vital but necessary end of life care which is by far the toughest part of the job. As we purely specialise in retirement livery, the horse won't have the stresses of daily life with other horses coming and going that you may find at other livery yards. Plus so that owners can - if they wish - purchase a younger horse knowing that their older horse's ongoing care is going to be managed with that horse's welfare coming first.....including the vital but necessary end of life care which is by far the toughest part of the job. A peaceful, relaxed retirement in a secure and tranquil environment with all the tlc they have enjoyed throughout their lives. https://www.horseandhound.co.uk/news/retired-horse-free-good-home-hh-asks-tough-question-668348?fbclid=IwAR1TVs51na0PCJi5FzctFQ5mSNXLeNElf3onsNlr1tdor0--Uh_8s6iJmgQ |
